Arthey Associates are a firm of Chartered Surveyors and Farm Business Consultants based in the market town of Oundle in East Northamptonshire. We mainly operate across the Midlands and East Anglia, but carry out work for clients as far afield as the South East and South West of the UK. We also have international experience in Central and Eastern Europe.

The company was set up by Tom Arthey in 2016 to provide clients with straightforward, practical advice that delivers value for money and long term benefit to you and your businesses.

We have many years experience in advising both private and corporate clients on a wide range of property, land and business matters, ensuring that the quality of the advice we provide and our professional integrity is never compromised.

We also recognise that for many businesses, small and large, rural and town-based, it is often more efficient and financially viable to outsource certain skills, rather than employ an extra person in-house. With that in mind, we have now extended our team to offer our clients marketing, administrative and bookkeeping services.

With many years of experience in the rural business marketing and communications sector, we can now offer support for social media management, advertising, event management, article writing, liaising with media contacts to secure editorial and advertising copy, photography, email newsletters, brochure and catalogue creating and writing, and much more.

We are pleased to now also offer our clients assistance with their bookkeeping requirements, saving you valuable time each week and month and ensuring your VAT, PAYE and other financial requirements are fulfilled. We can work alongside your existing accountant to prepare all the information they need to file your tax return and company records each year.

We are also equipped to manage farm record keeping including Gatekeeper and British Cattle Movement Society (BCMS).

Tom Wilson

Tom’s connection to farming began early, having grown up in rural Northamptonshire. As a boy, he was drawn to the machinery and animals that define farm life, but over time, his interest shifted towards the management of land and the day-to-day operations of farming businesses. He has a strong belief in the importance of supporting productive farming while also taking care of the land, ensuring it is preserved for future generations.

Tom studied Rural Land Management at The Royal Agricultural University, where he graduated with a BSc (Hons) in 2019. Following his studies, he worked on farms and estates across England and Scotland, gaining practical experience in land agency roles. During this time, his focus was on Rural Payments, helping landowners and farmers access government support. These experiences gave him a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities within rural land management. In the years that followed, Tom took on roles in the Midlands, where he was involved in the sale and purchase of land for large-scale development projects. However, his interest in agriculture remained strong, and he eventually returned to the sector that felt more closely aligned with his values and interests.

Since joining Arthey Associates at the beginning 2023, Tom has been working across various aspects of agricultural consultancy. He focuses on areas such as government grants, rural planning, and mapping, aiming to provide practical support to clients, navigating the obstacles of rural business. His approach is rooted in a genuine interest in helping farms thrive while contributing to the long-term care of the land.
